Got Winter Fashion Fatigue? Try Track Pants With Blazers

It’s not as weird as it seems!

New year, new you, right? Well, wrong. Unless you’ve suddenly won the lottery or seriously raided the Ssense sale, most of us enter the next twelve-month period with exactly the same closet as we did before. Bunches of black clothes, endless layers of leggings and turtlenecks, the same plump puffer jackets — dressing for January can often feel like a bad case of Groundhog Day (or Palm Springs, for the Gen Zs out there), and the longer the cold lasts, the more our winter outfits feel stale.

So let FASHION suggest something radical: track pants and blazers. In theory, it does sound strange. One is a sportswear staple and the other a boardroom basic. But in practice, the result is an entirely new winter outfit formula that can provide a much-needed refresh to what’s already in your wardrobe.

Consider it an extension of the Wrong Shoe Theory, where content creators paired unexpected shoes with ostensibly incompatible ensembles. The combination goes against all the typical fashion rules that society has subscribed to, but by doing so, the look becomes infinitely more interesting — more personal, if you will.

By the same logic, track pants are undeniably casual and usually reserved for very specific occasions: an early morning trip to the gym or late-night grocery store run. The low-maintenance piece isn’t meant to be seen but rather hidden in the background, almost like a dirty secret. In contrast, blazers naturally command attention. Their business connotations and professional poise are synonymous with taking charge and power dressing.

Together, track pants and blazers bring out the best in each other. The suit jacket elevates the jogger beyond its athletic origins while the colourful bottom disrupts the uniformity of the top and sprinkles in a bit of Sporty Spice nostalgia.

Just look to Scandi-girls as your style guide. Flooding the streets during fashion week, content creators and A-list attendees alike paired their vibrant track pants with buisnesscore emblems like blazers, kitten heels and top-handle bags.

Then on the Spring 2025 runways, many designers were still holding space for the Olympics. Sport references ran rampant with the likes of Fendi jerseys and Louis Vuitton soccer balls, while other luxury brands took a subtler route. Dior went monochrome with all black blazers and baggy sweatpants, Prada paired leggings with suede coats and Miu Miu accessorized flowy skirts with track jackets.

If the thought of marrying your track pants and blazers for a new winter outfit seems daunting, start with simple styling. As seen above, wearing a singular tone can help you wade into the sartorial waters. However, given the lack of colour and overall oomph that January inspires, we would encourage you to opt for the more whimsical option. The key is to anchor your outfit with one “hero” hue and pair it with a complementary neutral. A bright red pant with a navy blazer and white tee is an easy colour combo to pull off. Pink with grey and green with beige are also worth adding into your repertoire.

The main takeaway is to be more creative with your closet. Pair the unpairable, accessorize the unaccessorizeable, lean into the fun of experimentation. The new year might bring on a new you, after all.
