Met Gala 2016 Red Carpet By the Numbers

Yes, we actually sat down and counted the number of nude lips on the carpet.

By D’Loraine Miranda

Nude lips, sequins and cut-outs proved to be the ultimate Met Gala starter pack at last night’s opening of the Costume Institute’s Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology exhibition. In total, we tallied up whopping 101 guests donning nude lips (or MLBBs), and a total of 57 sequinned/jewel encrusted ensembles.

On the hair front, sleek strands dominated, as well as high ponies (case in point: the adorable Gigi Hadid), and a slew of chic braids, with Miranda Kerr and Alicia Vikander perfecting the style, both in stunning Vuitton outfits. Speaking of the storied French maison, Nicolas Ghesquiere’s gang was out in full force (and in combat boots) which was a pleasant surprise and refreshing contrast to the usual Balmain and Tom Ford armies that dominate the red carpet scene.

Check out the list below for the best of last night’s Met Gala by the numbers.

101 nude lips 57 sequined/jewel-encrusted looks 30 cut-out dresses 21 black dresses 19 silver outfits 19 heads of straight hair 19 white ensembles 13 elaborate head pieces 13 naked dresses
11 dark lips 11 silver eyeshadow looks 9 pairs of boots 7 inoffensive braids
7 chokers 6 high ponytails 6 mini-dresses 3 pairs of glasses 4 feathered dresses 4 baby bumps 2 prosthetic-looking arms à la Bucky Barnes
2 #TBT-worthy Tamagotchis 2 completely bare midriffs 1 pair of jeans (#vibes)
