All Hail the Return of Corduroy

There’s something to be said about the return of corduroy this fall, the casual ribbed sister to lustrous velvet glamour. Many associate this nostalgic fabric with the sartorial naive, which makes it perfect for this current moment where trends such as clogs and prairie dresses are all about deflecting sex appeal. Spotted on the Fall 2018 runways, Roland Mouret showed us full corduroy suits, Emilia Wickstead pulled off business casual cord pants, and Erdem put a glamorous evening-wear twist on the traditionally nerdy fabric.

Roland Mouret RTW Fall 2018

Originally called “Manchester cloth” (named after the working class uniforms originating from the British city), designers, retailers and street style stars are incorporating corduroy into all facets of fashion. From two-piece suits, pinafore dresses, boiler suits, to shoes, we’re seeing a corduroy explosion in all colours and styles.

Here’s a series of corduroy looks you can shop. From bright pinks to muted browns, there’s a corduroy piece equivalent for every item in your closet.
