We Have No Notes on Hailey Bieber’s Maternity Style

Hailey Bieber has long been known for her enviable, much-replicated style, so it makes sense that Mrs. Bieber’s baby would already be a street style star in utero.

Maternity style is having somewhat of a moment lately. Long seen as boring and unfashionable, stars like Rihanna — whose maternity wear throughout both of her pregnancies was as exciting as her non-preggo looks — are redefining what is considered “appropriate” pregnancy attire.

Nowadays, pregnant fashion girlies like Hailey Bieber don’t have to shelve their personal styles in favour of misshapen sack dresses, but are instead embracing their bumps. Bieber, who announced her pregnancy in May, has always had a distinct style, expertly mixing oversized silhouettes and  high-low street style with a bit of a sexy edge — think sheer lace dresses and boxy blazers paired with vertiginous stilettos.

While this formula often leads to hilariously mismatched — and Halloween-worthy — ‘fits compared those of her husband Justin Bieber, the model doesn’t seem bothered, because if her first few pregnancy looks are any indication, her maternity looks are going to be giving fashion.

Case in point: Bieber’s pregnancy announcement. On May 9, the Biebers shared the news that Hailey was six months pregnant. A video posted by the couple showed them renewing their vows in Hawaii in an intimate ceremony officiated by their pastor. Channelling old Hollywood and starlets of the past, Bieber renewed her vows in a stunning off-the-shoulder white lace dress from Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello, paired with a bespoke lace headscarf wrapped around her hair and neck.

The Rhode founder completed the look with a pair of black Saint Laurent sunnies, giving the outfit serious Roman Holiday flair.

Shortly after sharing the exciting news with fans, Bieber began sharing some behind-the-scenes moments of her pregnancy. Taking a cue from maternity style maven Rihanna, Bieber channelled some early 2000s energy, donning a pink butterfly top and low-waisted jeans, putting her cute bump on full display.

In the same month, the model was also photographed out and about, rocking a leather vest and jacket from Alexander Wang, paired with Margiela trousers and ‘90s YSL sunglasses, as well as a more laid-back off-duty combo of shorts, loafers and a baby tee. Her main accessory? Her bump, of course.

But the star’s maternity looks really picked up in June. With the help of stylist Dani Michelle, Bieber turned up the already sweltering heat while in New York city with her hubby, serving model maternity style on the streets of the Big Apple. On June 22, mama Bieber wore a fitted black lace catsuit that would make Anne Hathaway’s Cat Woman (or Ariana Grande in “The Boy Is Mine”) extremely jealous.

Custom-made by Alessandra Rich, the catsuit was lined with a taupe fabric, creating the illusion that it was sheer. Sexy! Bieber paired the catsuit with a signature oversized black leather trench and black stilettos.

The same weekend, the model made an appearance at a pop-up event for her beauty brand Rhode in a similarly fashionable look, wearing an oversized tan blazer by Magda Butrym and a custom nude dress from designer LaQuan Smith.

Later that same day, Bieber switched it up for a date night with her main squeeze, changing into a white satin Phoebe Philo dress with an asymmetrical hem, a Ferragamo bag and her signature YSL sunnies.

In early July, Bieber and her plus one served a blokecore moment in a Fila jersey (below).

And on July 15, the Rhode founder was photographed in Malibu in baggy jeans, kitten heels, a signature baggy leather jacket and an oversized woven handbag. She further accessorized with a pair of her beloved oversized earrings, on display with her slicked-back bun.

Heading into August (and the impending arrival of baby Bieber), mum and dad took to social media to share their excitement and love once again, with the model donning an on-trend butter yellow ruffle dress with sheer skirting from Jacquemus.

What makes Bieber’s maternity style so note-worthy is the fact that she isn’t changing it — and losing her fashion identity — just because her body is changing. Instead, the star and her stylist are adapting, making her distinct style and go-to outfit formulas work for her growing bump.

During a time that many people can find discombobulating (pregnancy comes with so many changes!), Bieber gets to be Bieber — now with just an extra-cute accessory.
