Quite a lot has happened in the last 24 hours. It’s the four-year anniversary of the January 6 United States Capitol insurrection. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced he will resign as both the leader of Canada and the Liberal Party. Tom Holland and Zendaya may or may not have gotten engaged. And then, of course, there were the Golden Globes.
The 2025 Golden Globes took place in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 5, and as expected, the ceremony was rather, er, unexpected. There was the usual run of overly earnest speeches, awkward and forced award show banter and some questionable categorizations (was Zoe Saldana really a supporting character in Emilia Pérez?).
But some undeniable highlights included Nikki Glaser’s perfectly punchy monologue (the joke about “the eyelashes” above Timmy Chalamet’s upper lip was a particular favourite), Demi Moore’s moving speech about the struggles she’s faced in her career, and all the cozy couples, from Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco to Chalamet and Kylie Jenner. However, we would be remiss (and disloyal to our name!) if we didn’t discuss the fashion.
Taking the “gold” in the Golden Globes quite seriously, many stars ventured into metallic territory, via dresses and accessories. Gold, silver, platinum and bronze gowns were seen all across the 2025 Golden Globes red carpet, with many embellishing their ensembles with bold jewellery. Menswear also had a major moment with colourful suiting and untraditional tailoring, proving that men also just want to have fun.
So if you’re looking to relive last night, or maybe forget the headlines of today, below, FASHION rounded up the five major trends from the Golden Globes 2025 red carpet.

On recent red carpets, finding a necklace — let alone a big, show-stopping, teetering-on-gaudy necklace — has been like playing a game of Where’s Waldo? and losing. But not here! Honey, you didn’t need a magnifying glass to see these baubles; they were visible from outer space.
The biggest statement of the evening came courtesy of Anya Taylor-Joy, who wore a necklace from the 2024 Tiffany & Co. Blue Book Collection with over 64 total carats of opals and diamonds. Coming in a close second was Zendaya, whose Bvlgari high-jewellery necklace included an oval paraiba tourmaline and 48 carats of diamonds. Other honourable mentions include Selena Gomez in a Tiffany & Co. celestial pendant, Ariana Grande in Swarovski, Anna Sawai in Cartier, and Pamela Anderson in Pandora.
Consider recession-core officially over! Long live the return of big and bold jewellery.

Sure, Zoe Saldana won for her role in Emilia Pérez. And yes, Sebastian Stan took home a trophy for A Different Man. But the true triumph of the night belonged to Louis Vuitton. The French House dressed no fewer than ten nominees, including Zendaya, Cynthia Erivo, Emma Stone, and Cate Blanchett.
Individually, each of these leading ladies told their own unique fashion story, with Cynthia Erivo continuing to defy gravity and Blanchett reworking an older gold garment from 2024. But together, their impact was far greater, asserting the power and prowess of Nicolas Ghesquière, who in 2024 celebrated a decade as the creative director of Louis Vuitton womenswear.
Is it a coincidence that all of these tried-and-true brand ambassadors were in one room? To say it was would be a disservice to Louis Vuitton, whose talent for tapping into the zeitgeist is precisely what makes it a powerhouse. One thing’s for sure: At the Golden Globes, it was Louis Vuitton’s world and we were just living in it.

The Golden Globes are the first award show red carpet of the year, and if this one is any indication, the men are serving fashion with a capital F this season. While there was the usual sea of black suits, the celebs who caught the most attention were the ones experimenting with colour.
The perennial millennial boyfriends, Andrew Garfield and Adam Brody, opted for forest green garments by Gucci and Prada, respectively. Jeff Goldblum, Jeremy Strong, and Andrew Scott went viral for their aquamarine ensembles from Amiri, Loro Piana, and Vivienne Westwood (bonus points to Strong for the bucket hat!). And Dwayne Johnson went full babygirl in a lavender Dolce & Gabbana blazer.

After a year defined (and somewhat exhausted) by method dressing, many wondered if celebs and their stylists would extend the trend into award season. However, in a refreshing turn of events, the young starlets took on a different direction: Old Hollywood glamour. Ariana Grande ditched Glinda’s gauze for Audrey Hepburn-esque vintage Givenchy. Selena Gomez told E! News she was trying for “Cinderella meets Jackie O” with her icy blue Prada. And Zendaya left her armour and tennis gear at home for Joyce Bryant cosplay.
Of course, reverting to the Golden Age of film for the Golden Globes (or really any prestigious award show) isn’t revolutionary by any means. But after months of red carpet fashion feeling like a fatigued marketing machine (we’re looking at you Wicked!), celebs choosing timelessness over novelty felt downright rebellious.

If there’s one thing to be thankful for this year, it’s that the days of boring basics and unimaginative menswear are long gone (thank God!), and in their wake lie cropped blazers, pussy bows, exaggerated cummerbunds, and oh so much more.
Colman Domingo has recently been taking some serious sartorial swings, and the Golden Globe 2025 red carpet was no different. Continuing his Alessandro Michele love affair, the nominee wore a black Valentino suit, punctuated with a patterned shirt, bow tie, and cummerbund. Timothée Chalamet also took a stylish risk with a skinny (and we do mean skinny) sparkle suit and blue tie scarf, providing us with the first glimpse into Haider Ackermann’s vision for Tom Ford. And not to be forgotten are the two male leads of Abbott Elementary, Tyler James Williams and Chris Perfetti, who both opted for a cropped blazer — the former repping Dolce & Gabbana and the latter sporting Tanner Fletcher.
