Let them eat cake? Sure, that’s cool. Let them eat breakfast in bed, take an hour long bath, and indulge in an early afternoon glass of hard liquor? Yes, you can sign us up for that.
If you need further proof that the British monarchy is nothing like us normies, check out Princess Margaret’s wake up ritual. Her sister, Queen Elizabeth II (heard of her?), is said to sip on a flute of bubbly before bed—but Margaret gets the decadence going early in the day. According to an excerpt from Ma’am Darling by Craig Brown, here’s how Princess Margaret spent most mornings:
“Followed by two hours in bed listening to the radio, reading the newspapers (‘which she invariably left scattered over the floor’) and chain-smoking.”
Baths are the epitome of luxury. Only people who have somewhere to be opt for a shower.
“An hour in the bath [would be] followed by hair and make-up at her dressing table, [before putting] on some clean clothes - as one would imagine of a Princess, she never wore any of her clothes more than once without having them cleaned.”
Because after a morning like this, you need a little liquid boost.
Margaret would then join “the Queen Mother for a four-course lunch served in an informal manner from silver dishes, with half a bottle of wine per person plus fruit and half a dozen different varieties of native and Continental cheeses.” It’s rough to be a royal, isn’t it?
