These Celebrity Couples Prove That Love Isn’t Dead — Yet

Hollywood couples tend to last no more than a couple years at best, but even so, every time one of our happily-ever-after prospects parts ways, we start believing in love a little bit less. This past year has been particularly rough for power couples: everyone from Jennifer and Justin, Zayn and Gigi, and Chris and Anna have publicly announced their split.

And then, in an announcement not even Page Six could have anticipated, Step Up sweethearts Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan shared that they have “lovingly chosen to separate” after nine years of marriage. The pair maintains that “there are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision —just two best-friends realizing it’s time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible.”

That’s a sweet statement and all, but isn’t it a little selfish for Hollywood to keep breaking our hearts like this? These celebs put their picture perfect relationships on display for public ogling, get us to emotionally invest in their partnership — only to later shatter our souls. We live for the A-listers who post PDA pics on social media, show affection on the red carpet and gush about each other on late night talk shows. We need mega-famous, ultra-beautiful but totally down-to-earth people who are absolutely smitten with each other to show us what real romance is.

Or maybe we don’t. In a recent interview with Health magazine, Dewan Tatum was eager to retire the “perfect couple” label. “I despise the word ‘perfect,’" she said. “We’ve always had the same values. But we’re not perfect! Are you kidding? We fight like other couples, we disagree about things, we have days where we don’t really like each other.”

Dewan Tatum is right: love is hard, even when you’re rich and really good-looking. But amidst the Hollywood madness, some celebrity power couples are still managing to make things work.
