Spring 2017 Beauty Trend Report: How to Wear Glitter
While glitter sometimes appeared somewhat subtly last season, in the form of a swipe of flecks underneath eyebrows or a glitter-dipped ear, this season, glitter-shy wallflowers will have no such luck. Full out sparkling lips at DKNY and Fendi commanded a double-take, but there was one hint of subtlety: Rodarte provided nail art inspo for girls who can’t get on board with the very concept—glitter was painted along cuticles for blink-and-you-might-miss-it subtlety. And at Alice+Olivia, sparkle was haphazardly applied over a purple smoky eye for a look that was inspired by tarot cards, according to makeup artist Sarah Lucero. “There’s a gypsy undertone.”
At Jill Stuart, glitter took on an even more playful approach, adorning pastel-hued multi-toned eyelids for a look that was reminiscent of a watercolour painting. Not interested in covering your face in hard-to-remove flecks? Take a note from Yves Saint Laurent, where Anthony Vaccarello instructed Tom Pecheux to decorate the exposed nipple of one lucky model in silver glitter. Why #freethenipple when you can #decoratethenipple instead?
