Stop Everything — Pat McGrath is Releasing a 61-Piece Makeup Collection
After seven sold-out limited edition makeup collections, Pat McGrath (a.k.a. the most influential makeup artist in the industry) is finally coming out with a permanent, core cosmetics range under her Pat McGrath Labs line.
Dubbed the ‘Unlimited Edition,’ the 61-piece (!!!) collection features 40 shades of lipstick in two finishes (nine existing MatteTrance Lipsticks, along with 31 new LuxeTrance Lipsticks which are said to be “a new creamy formula with intense color payoff and a subtly shiny [though not glossy] finish“), 12 PermaGel Ultra Lip Pencil shades, five PermaGel Ultra Glide Eye Pencils shades, three Mothership Eye Palettes (each featuring 10 powder eyeshadows in seven different finishes, including shadows based on formulas featured in Gold 001 and Dark Star 006) and one Dark Star Mascara.
The release (along with the previous collections from Pat McGrath Labs) comes after the makeup artist (and newly-minted British Vogue beauty editor-at-large) quietly parted ways with CoverGirl (she released a Star Wars-inspired collection with the beauty brand back in 2015). The Unlimited Edition will feature products inspired by what Pat has used backstage for the past two decades.
“A lot of these colours are my all-time colours for the last 25 years,” McGrath told WWD. “I can say, ‘This was the palette when you saw me do a tan and a bronze for Versace.’ I re-created shadows that I had to make to get that beautiful, rich seductive brown or that incredible metallic gold pigment that doesn’t exist unless it’s made out of eight different formulas.”
Then there’s the packaging. According to Fashionista, Pat turned to social media to commission fan art for the boxes. “To further deepen my commitment to serving as an incubator for new creative talent in fields beyond makeup artistry, I am very proud that Pat McGrath Labs packaging showcases young, extraordinarily talented artists from around the world that I discovered on social media who were kind enough to create work inspired by [my makeup],” she said.
The Pat McGrath Labs Unlimited Edition will rollout in two phases — first, the lipsticks on Sept. 16, followed by the rest of the collection on Sept. 28 on patmgrathlabs.com. The entire collection will hit 25 Sephora stores and sephora.com on Oct. 6. There will also be a “secret” pre-sale available to select e-mail subscribers. MatteTrance and LuxeTrance Lipsticks will retail for $38 each, PermaGel Ultra Glide Eye Pencils and PermaGel Ultra Lip Pencils for $25 each, Dark Star Mascara for $28 and Mothership Eye Palettes for $125.
