Everything You Need to Know About Pat McGrath’s Latest Launch

It’s been a minute since Pat McGrath launched a new product from her Pat McGrath Labs collection, but the wait is finally over.

Last month, the legendary makeup artist teased her sixth product launch at Anna Sui’s fall 2017 show at New York Fashion Week: a bold, cobalt blue eyeshadow.

McGrath reportedly stayed coy backstage when talking about the Anna Sui beauty look, which consisted of said shadow and burgundy lips, and waited until after the show to make the announcement on Instagram that a new product is “coming soon.”

After revealing all the details regarding her Pat McGrath Labs 006 launch, it’s clear that it’s so much more than just that stark blue shadow. Called Dark Labs 006, it’s the ultimate smoky eye kit, and comes in three separate sets — two of which contain seven products and one containing six.

Version: Dark Matter is the six-piece set which features Dark Matter pigment (a black powder with some shimmer), Black Smudgeliner eye kohl (a black cream shadow packaged in a retractable stick), Astral White pigment (a holographic white powder), Mercury pigment (a soft gold powder), Cyber Clear eye gloss (a non-sticky, holographic balm) and a blender brush.

The other two versions contain all of the above, plus one extra eyeshadow — the blue, sparkly shade used backstage at Anna Sui can be found in the Version: UltraViolet Blue set, while the Version: UltraSuede Brown set has the “most perfect, forgiving, universal shade of brown,” Allure reports McGrath saying.

“Whenever you see smoky eyes today it’s just contour, contour, shape, shape, ” McGrath told editors during the launch on Tuesday. “It’s kind of not the way a girl wants to look,” she continued, though you could argue that its popularity, further propelled by Instagram, illustrates that there is a segment who loves applying it that way. The makeup artist says her kit is for a different kind of smoky eye. “It’s a lived in smoky eye, that’s what this kit is about. About playing, and all the years backstage I’ve ever done the smoky eye it has a hint of brown — and not that many people tell you that it’s gold, and that it’s forgiving, and it’s beautiful and it’s velvety.”

All three Pat McGrath Labs Dark Star 006 kits will be available April 11th at 12pm EST on patmcgrath.com. UltraViolet Blue and UltraSuede Brown will retail for $130USD each, while Dark Matter, which is limited edition, will retail for $95USD.
