One trend we can’t wait ‘til spring to try is turbans. A handful of different styles were wrapped around models’ heads at last night’s Attitude Jay Manuel show. It’s definitely a playful, beachy look, but with the right scarf (think: warm autumn shades) turbans totally work for the last, crisp days of fall. Here’s how to tie it up:

We teach you how to tie a turban, Jay Manuel style!

1. Start with a long, rectangular scarf. We scooped up our demo scarf at the show, but this feather-printed one is also by Attitude Jay Manuel and available now ($25, at Sears).

2. Drape the middle of the scarf over the crown of your head, then gather the ends and pull them forward. If you feel like a (very stylish) ghost, you’re doing it right.

3. Crisscross the ends of the scarf at the centre of your forehead. Now crisscross again. It helps if you lean forward for this step—that way the scarf won’t slide off the back of your head. It’s okay if the top part of the turban isn’t fully tucked in at this point, you can adjust it at the end.

4. Pull/wrap the scarf ends around your head and tie together at the back. Double knots work best! Once it’s secure, adjust the front, making sure the crisscross is centered and the top is tucked in.

5. Voilà! You’re done! We think turbans look best when you leave your hair down. Of course, they’re also a great way to feel stylish when you’ve skipped the morning shower. So, at the very least, pull a few wisps of hair out to frame your face once you’re done wrapping.
