September fashion statements: 5 Style Panel tips for making the biggest impact this month

In the words of Candy Pratts Price, September is the January of fashion. Known to be the month for trying new trends or experimenting with a new look, fall trends and red carpet events give us endless inspirations to help us get out of our sartorial comfort zone. And with TIFF and fashion week kicking off in just a few days, we are itching with excitement to see what this month has in store for us, sartorially.

Looking for more everyday wear inspiration? Lucky for us, the girls from Style Panel are here to help us keep things real with their style tips.

Although fall naturally calls for darker hues, a few of the Style Panel members break tradition by bringing pops of colours to this week’s outfits. Looking effortlessly chic, A Fashion Love Affair’s Cara McLeay glams up her bold coloured dress with statement studded heels and a chic leather bag. Using colour as a statement, Velvet and Vino’s Becky Kung adds a hot pink blazer as a way to elevate her fall ensemble. While Barbara Ann’s Style Blog’s Barbara Ann Solomon experiments with the boudoir trend with a coral pink shirt dress, The Ordinary PeoplesAlyssa Lau releases her inner riot girl as she mixes printed pieces with a classic leather biker jacket and fashionable platform boots to take on the cooler temperatures.

As a fashion buyer, I am constantly searching for that perfect look to wear to the various fashion weeks from New York to London to Paris...I always find simple is best, because you can focus on quality over quantity and feel amazing and confident while remaining effortless and comfortable!"

September is when the chill starts to settle in, so there’s nothing quite like a leather jacket to help combat cool breezes. Also, if you want to maximize the amount of fun from leaf-stomping, I highly recommend platform boots.

Alyssa’s wearing: Shark shirt, plaid shirt and socks, Forever 21. Y.R.U. boots from Gypsywarrior.com.

As the temperatures in early September are still quite warm the trend I’m loving is the boudoir pyjama inspired style. It’s so easy, comfortable and work appropriate, yet it’s so glam and easily dressed up. With TIFF and all of the events and parties in the fall it’s hard to balance great office to party outfits, so keeping a simple dress like this styled lightly during the day, you can add something sparkly and textured like a fur stole for a great evening look.

Barbara’s wearing: Shirt dress, Cheap Monday. Boots, Jeffrey Campbell.

September Fashion Becky Kung

Becky Kung, 30 Calgary | Velvet & Vino

With the various Fashion and Film events taking place this month, I appreciate a look that is both sophisticated and compelling. The camo print is so on-trend this fall and when combined with a smart and vibrant pink blazer, the look creates the right lively touch for any fabulous event.

September Fashion Anum Khan

Black and white ensembles are huge for fall/winter this year, so I’ve decided to incorporate this trend into some of my outfits for city events as well. I’m absolutely loving this striped a-line skirt as a statement piece because it looks glamorous no matter what you pair it with. Burgundy is another trend to embrace this season, so what better way than to get coloured boots?! This brings a pop of colour to a black and white outfit.

Anum’s wearing: Top and skirt, Forever 21. Boots, Ecco. Necklace, E-closet.
