Lorde Style: Charting the Dark Fashion Sense of this Breakout Star

With two Grammy awards, a list of hits, two FASHION covers and a beauty collaboration under her belt, Lorde (born Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor) has done more than most dream of at age twenty-two. With a distinctive love for anything black, and quirky witch-esque garments, Lorde’s style stands out in a sea of sequinned mini dresses and plunging jumpsuits.

This century’s answer to Wednesday Adams is all about goth vibes, as evidenced by her penchant for chunky Stella McCartney boots, vampy lips and black tipped nail art. Black on black on black seems to extend to the red carpet as well, with her many variations of the black suit and black sheer romantic dresses. Yet, recently, the singer introduced pastel colours into her wardrobe, such as in her dreamy 2017 MTV VMAs lilac Monique Lhuillier frock, transforming her into a perfect blend of princess and goth.

With Lorde’s storytelling songs and authentic sense of style, this New Zealand native has become a breathe of fresh air for music today. To celebrate her twenty-second birthday, we’ve rounded up her most iconic fashion moments. All hail Lorde and her reign as music royalty.
