Friday Harbour’s Fashion Collective Drew Toronto’s Most Fashionable Crowd
The scene: A stunning late-summer day on the shores of Lake Simcoe, where the sky is starting to hint at sunset. Friday Harbour’s central CIBC Pier has been transformed into a fashion runway as part of the resort’s Fashion Collective series in parternship with the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards (CAFA). Now in its fourth year, this plen-air fashion show celebrates the best of local fashion talent, offering designers and brands a chance to market their wares to press, influencers and Friday Harbour regulars. It’s perfectly in keeping with CAFA’s core mission: to uplift and support Canadian talent.
This year, a portion of ticket sales benefitted the Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI), a first-of-its-kind non-profit organization that offers early stage fashion brand founders access to valuable mentorship and resources.
Alongside the runway show, Friday Harbour hosted a pop-up market featuring local brands, where guests could shop some of the very same designer finds they saw walking down the runway. From statement necklaces and woven bags by Vanessa Vinces to boho-luxe dresses by Revelle, it was the true essence of see now, buy now.
As the official media sponsor of the event, FASHION presented the debut show: A lineup by House of Gallagher. The looks ranged from perfectly tailored cocktail dresses in moody browns to beachier fare of crop tops and midi skirts befitting of the venue. And behind the rows of seated guests, even more spectators looked on from their sailboats and yachts docked at the marina.
All in all, it was another win for Canadian fashion — even the rain held off.
