FASHION and CAFA Team Up for the Wear Canada Proud Online Shopping Event
If you've been looking for an excuse to #shoplocal, this is it.
COVID-19 has hit many in the Canadian fashion community hard and the impact has been swift and devastating, creating a need for urgent action. So, we began thinking about what we could do to help. In addition to bringing you stories about local labels so you can get to know more about the incredible treasure trove of talent we have across the country, we reached out to Vicky Milner, the president of CAFA, to pitch the idea of a sale in support of Canadian design – and the Wear Canada Proud Online Shopping Event was born.
“We believe that Canadian talent should be seen, heard and supported,” says Bernadette Morra, editor-in-chief of FASHION magazine. “So I was thrilled that when I reached out to Vicky asking if we could team up on a sale, she wrote back immediately with an enthusiastic, ‘yes!’” Milner adds, “The Wear Canada Proud movement — which invites and rallies Canadians across the country to wear Canadian fashion and take pride as a nation — is more relevant and more important than ever, given the impact of the COVID-19 crisis. CAFA is proud to partner with FASHION to create a platform for consumers to show support for our home-grown brands and to learn about the incredible breadth of talent that spans our country.”
Taking place for 48 hours on June 16 and 17, the sale includes over 100 Canadian brands offering everything from ready-to-wear to outerwear, shoes, jewellery, handbags, menswear and more. Hayley Elsaesser, Corey Moranis, Eliza Faulkner, Bouswari and Sentaler are just some of the names involved. All proceeds generated from the online shopping event will benefit the designers involved and some brands have elected to donate a percentage of sales to local charities.
