September may host some of the biggest fashion weeks—London, New York, Paris, and Milan—but come October, it’s Toronto’s time to shine. Considering that Toronto is the home of the second biggest North American fashion week, it goes without saying that the city hosts an influx of shows, parties and fashionable events. From World MasterCard Fashion Week to The ShOws to the just-announced The Collections, there’s so much going on between October 15-26. As the event calendar starts to build (and explode) we’ll keep updating this guide to Toronto Fashion Week—so check back often and stay in the loop.

World MasterCard Fashion Week Spring 2013
October 22-26, 2012
David Pecaut Square
There’s a first time for everything and this season will be the debut of IMG Canada hosting World Mastercard Fashion Week. IMG—who run global fashion weeks like London, New York and Milan—took control in August from Robin Kay, who had been at the helm of the event for 13 years. So far it looks on par with past seasons, with a schedule that includes Canadian favourites such as Evan Biddell, Pink Tartan, Vawk and Joe Fresh. The full calendar is available here.
The Collections Spring 2013 October 15-17, 2012 The Burroughes Building
Started by members of the Fashion Collective, The Collections features a mix of Canadian talent that goes beyond being just fashion related—it also pulls in film, music and photography. The event kicks off with the DIScONNECT fashion film festival on October 15 and will be followed with two days of fashion shows, including Chloe Comme Parris—who recently showed at New York Fashion Week as part of the GenArt Fresh Faces in Fashion 2012—Sid Neigum, Laura Siegel, Klaxon Howl and Cara Cheung. Although it’s The Collections’ inaugural season, they’ve partnered with Aveda and M.A.C Cosmetics for hair and makeup.
The shOws Spring 2013 October 16-17, 2012 Andrew Richard Designs
For Spring 2013 The shOws will feature designers Jeremy Laing, Tanya Taylor, Jean-Pierre Braganza and Antonio Azzuolo. Now in its third season, The shOws has situated itself as one of the must-attend events of fashion week. After all, it’s the only place that brings top Canadian designers back home to show the same collections they debuted at fashion weeks in New York and London. (Added bonus: it’s all done with the help of sponsors—like P&G for hair and makeup—so there’s no added cost to the designer.) Taking place over two days, Tanya Taylor and Jean-Pierre Braganza are up first on October 16, while Antonio Azzuolo and Jeremy Laing will show on October 17. For anyone worried about a conflict with The Collections, The shOws run at 5:30 and 7:00pm both days, so schedule accordingly.
