Designer Emilia Wickstead Accuses Meghan Markle’s Wedding Gown of Being a Blatant Ripoff

The SHADE of it all

Emilia Wickstead is a designer favourite of Kate Middleton, who has worn her structured, pastel Easter egg dresses on numerous occasions. Sister-in-law Meghan Markle too, has worn a black, Jackie O-inspired pencil skirt suit from the designer. So it comes as a rather bewildering surprise that Wickstead has accused Meghan Markle’s wedding dress, designed by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy, as being a blatant ripoff of one of her bridal gowns.

“Her dress is identical to one of our dresses. Apparently a lot of commentators were saying, ‘It’s an Emilia Wickstead dress,'” the designer told the Daily Mail.

Wickstead’s ‘Helene’ wedding dress does mirror the bateaux neckline and simplistic A-line silhouette of Markle’s dress, however it does not have the train and appears to be more of a creamy ivory colour than a pristine white. Also, Wickstead’s dress clocks in at a mere $12,000 compared to the approximately $35,000 value of Markle’s gown.

It seems a little ironic that Wickstead posted an image of the dress on her Instagram a full two days after the royal wedding. So is it really a copy? Diet Prada might have an answer.
