Here’s a cosmological conundrum for you: what do a Cavalier King Charles spaniel and a shooting star have in common? Or perhaps roses and owls, or couture-like lace and over-the-top hearts? Nothing, you might think—and you would be right. It’s a constellation of improbable connections—wholly personal, delightfully illogical—where memory and imagination entwine into something inimitable. In other words, the inner world of Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s Artistic Director.
Aptly named “Caroline’s Universe,” the 2025 Chopard Red Carpet collection is an ode to the intimate workings of its creative lead. Presented at this year’s Cannes International Film Festival, the high jewellery assortment made its debut on opening night as Bella Hadid emerged in emerald earrings. And while the offering, like all its predecessors, is designed for stars to sparkle as they climb the iconic French steps, this year’s variety feels distinctly personal, revealing an expansive portrait of Scheufele and her creative psyche.
“It dives into my life, my environment, my personality, which is multifaceted, very much like a diamond,” she muses over email. “But at the core of the 2025 Red Carpet Collection, there is something about me, something more intimate that I wanted to share. I am a great believer in sharing, energy and emotion. So I revealed what makes my heart beat: animals, nature, haute couture, cosmos, hearts.”
Indeed, all those emblems and more are featured in 78 different necklaces, rings, earrings, bracelets and watches — a number picked to honour the festival’s 78th year. As per usual, Chopard’s incredible craftsmanship takes centre stage, with rare gemstones, seamless settings and intricate gold work that can only be defined as technical wizardry.
But what really separates Caroline’s Universe from past iterations is its ability to balance the personal with the ubiquitous. “I think I’ve come to appreciate what [the] can reveal — something very big, very deep and very close at the same time,” Scheufele shares. “Creation is universal.”
Take something like the Cavalier King Charles spaniel ring, a piece that is particularly close to Scheufele’s heart. Inspired by her own dog, Byron, she captured his likeness using white, black and cognac diamonds and inadvertently made him an unofficial Cannes Film Festival mascot.
Then there are the bijoux that pay homage to Scheufele’s home garden on the shore of Lake Geneva. A delicate rose brooch in 18-carat rose gold paved with the reddest of rubies. A vibrant green watch decorated in pear-shaped emeralds that emulates a season in bloom. And a pair of statement earrings with jaw-dropping white opal buds that are just begging to be accompanied by an equally floral fragrance.
However, the most gasp-worthy piece in the 2025 Chopard Red Carpet collection may be the necklace first revealed in April: a magnificent diamond and emerald choker that took 450 hours to create. Punctuated by a 129-carat Colombian emerald cabochon, the stone’s remarkable size, rich green colour and exceptional clarity are a testament to the country’s legendary emerald mines. Scheufele particularly points out “its smooth, domed cut” that “enhances the stone’s natural glow, making it a rare masterpiece.”
“I carefully consider balance, proportion and harmony to ensure that each stone is showcased beautifully without overshadowing the overall design,” she says of her process. “Sometimes, I’m inspired directly by an exceptional gem, allowing its character to guide the creation. Other times, the starting point is the design that I visualize in my mind.”
Either way, Scheufele’s objective has always been to create jewellery that’s “cohesive and timeless” and she hopes that Chopard fans take away “a feeling of closeness, authenticity and generosity” after experiencing her most personal offering yet.
“My own cosmos overflows with ideas and precious stones. It fills my life with joy and joy is the ultimate universal emotion!” No conundrum there.
