Jeremy Strong Is Serious About His Golden Globes Outfit

A plain black suit? It could never be him.

Are you tired of suit-and-tie tyranny? Have you a taste for minty freshness? Do you find satisfaction in visuals that are equal parts thrilling and vexing? Jeremy Strong at the 2025 Golden Globes has the look for you.

On January 5, the Succession star graced the red carpet in a supple suit by Loro Piana that was not black or navy, but bright teal. Instead of a collared shirt and necktie underneath, he opted for a pristine white turtleneck. To finish the look, he adorned himself with an array of unnecessary accessories: a bucket hat, a pair of orange-tinted sunglasses and a tonal emerald watch.

It became, obviously, the sartorial centrepiece of the evening. Jeremy Strong was spotted again and again in the background of various 2025 Golden Globes shots, his ensemble a fluorescent beam of light, grounding viewers in reality and stealing attention at every turn. Naturally, it summoned a slew of critics.

“Succession star Jeremy Strong ROASTED over velvet outfit,” snickered Daily Mail. “Social Media Users Have Fun With ‘Mint Flavoured’ Jeremy Strong,” teased HuffPost. On Instagram, memes comparing him to Anne Hathaway’s Mia Thermopolis spread like wildfire. On X, many users likened him to Marnie from Girls, an objectively insufferable character with a penchant for making things all about her.

What’s more, Entertainment Tonight touted an interview in which Jeremy Strong “explains” his bucket hat choice, further shrouding this look in suspicion. But for Strong, the audacious ensemble needs no justification. It may be his most risk-taking yet, but it’s one that’s been building in his repertoire for some time.

For starters, Jeremy Strong has long been committed to a monochromatic ’fit. The Cut coined a new word — “broufit” — to describe his penchant for brown. In earlier years, he went through a navy phase. He once told Vogue he wore “neon only” for a period of time in childhood. Texture-wise, he’s similarly unpredictable — often opting for against-the-grain fabrics like fuzzy downs or shiny satins. His unexpected red carpet choices are made all the more tantalizing when you consider his self-serious reputation.

In 2021, after a viral New Yorker profile dove into Strong’s severe approach to method acting, it became clear he approaches everything — from his craft to even his fashion choices — with sobering devotion. He loves a novelty hat. He regularly swaps out ties for bolos, brooches and bows. While filming Succession, he picked out Kendall Roy’s clothes and lived in them, even on days they weren’t filming. “The clothes maketh the man,” he once mused rather Shakespearenly. While his red carpet moments might be received as cheeky irony or uncharacteristically silly, to Strong, they’re undeniably earnest. With each look, he offers not much in the way of verbal explanations, but his focused stare and quiet confidence says it all.

All things considered, the Jeremy Strong 2025 Golden Globes look is the amalgamation of these traits. The choice to wear Loro Piana — Kendall’s go-to brand — feels like a nod to his unforgettable portrayal of the eldest boy. The ensembles emanates head-to-toe softness, tickling your senses and making you want to reach out and touch. With the addition of the rimmed chapeau, the outfit’s flashy hue feels somehow measured and not overly indulgent. One thing’s for sure: it’s yet another look that is deeply personal to Strong on his winding style journey.

When he crossed paths with another minty-coloured menswear star, Andrew Scott, on the red carpet, he gave but a few succinct words to sum up his aesthetic. “Pastel universe,” Strong purred mysteriously to his sartorial counterpart. Confusing at first glance, seasonally offbeat, and just weird enough to be good, it’s indeed a look that catapults you into a new realm entirely. Best not to question such strokes of genius.
