Hollywood is rolling out its grandest red carpet for the 89th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, February 26th. The pre-parties are in full swing and the nominees are getting primped to the max. With just a few days to go until the biggest names in show biz (Ryan Gosling! Emma Stone!) arrive at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles dressed to the nines, we’re wondering who is going to be on this year’s best dressed list? Will breakout star Ruth Negga (Loving) top her stunning Golden Globes look? Her silver metallic Louis Vuitton gown was an instant red carpet winner.

But throughout Oscar history, there have also been a handful of memorable-for-all-the-wrong-reasons moments. From wacky to WTF, these gowns are famous for falling flat on the red carpet. Highlights include Björk’s swan dress and Whoopi Goldberg’s hybrid neon nightmare. Here’s hoping the gowns this Sunday will be filed under #stylegoals rather than #fail.

We’ve rounded up the 10 best Oscar dresses of all time—think of it as your red carpet primer before the big night. Michelle Williams, Nicole Kidman, Lupita Nyong’o—this group of leading ladies all win gold statues for their epic Oscars red carpet style. Check out the gallery below and prepare to swoon.
