First Mean Girls. Then Clueless. Now, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is the next young adult film reportedly getting the stage musical treatment. The beloved 2005 film, starring America Ferrera, Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel and Amber Tamblyn, was based on a book that follows four high school friends through their first summer apart, a pair of jeans the only thing keeping them all connected. Reminder: these were the days before obsessive Insta Story-ing, incessant Whatsapp updates, and live Snapchatting. So what’s a quartet of girlfriends to do but mail a magical pair of pants back and forth, across city and country lines?

The two films (a sequel followed in 2008, with rumours of a third film now doing the rounds) followed the events of Ann Brashares’ bestselling novels, touching upon everything from young love to depression to pregnancy scares to complicated family relationships, all portrayed through the lens of female friendship. No information about the creative team is known just yet, but we do hope the very first casting announcement they make answers this pressing question: which blue jeans have been chosen as the star of the show?
