Last night marked the first red carpet of 2020. The Palm Springs International Film Festival kicked off last night, bringing with it an array of shimmering gowns and sharp tuxedos on A-list celebrities and film industry professionals alike. The awards ceremony, which also happens to be a fundraiser, celebrates Hollywood’s Academy Award contenders. Each year this event ushers in awards season, priming our eyes for the upcoming slew of celebrities in impressive eveningwear. The festival runs through to January 13, screening over 200 films from countries around the world, so there’s likely to be more star-studded moments ahead. Here are the best from the red carpet so far:

Known for her standout red carpet style, J.Lo wore a gorgeous floral gown from Richard Quinn’s Spring 2020 collection.

Theron looked every inch the, ahem, bombshell in this two-piece Christian Dior set which she completed with a swipe of bold red lipstick.

The writer and producer of Queen & Slim stunned in a power suit.

Laura Dern brought a touch of Little Women to the red carpet in a dreamy floral Erdem gown.

Deep-purple velvet and fringing by Gucci + Greta Gerwig = match made in heaven.

Harriet star Cynthia Erivo always turns head, and her turn down the carpet in this stunning Schiaparelli gown was no exception.

The Hustlers director knows how to make a statement in the films she makes and on the red carpet. We love the shiny metallic finish on this Azzi & Osta wrap-front piece.

Clad in a Jason Wu ensemble, Renée Zellweger looked sleek and timeless.
