Watch out T-Swift, there’s a new squad in town.
Ahead of her third studio album, launching in 2018, Charli XCX dropped a music video for her latest track, “Boys,” and it’s getting a lot of buzz. Sure, Selena Gomez’s “Fetish” may be racking up the views at the moment, but, in our opinion, Charli XCX’s newly dropped MV (which she co-directed with Sarah McColgan, btw) is the one we really need to talk about. For starters, it features 62 boys. Yes, you read that correctly. The 24-year-old British songstress rallied up a total of 62 males to make cameos in her music video. We’re talking Cameron Dallas, Charlie Puth, Joe Jonas, Will.i.am., The Fat Jew, Jack Antonoff and Korea’s biggest hip hop star/producer Jay Park. Pause for effect.
"‘Boys’ is my favorite music video I’ve ever made,” says Charli in a press release. “I just wanna say a big thanks to all the boys involved for totally embracing and understanding my vision and being excited by the concept. p.s. no boys were harmed in the making of this video.”
While rounding up 62 guys for one music video is a big feat on its own, it’s the message we should zero in on. Turning the tables and putting the boys in situations that are deemed girly (for lack of a better word), the video is all about shaking up pop culture.
“Obviously, the whole idea behind my video was to avert the male gaze,” Charli XCX told Junkee. “All the guys are in this video because they have a sense of humour and because they understood the concept.”
“You can read into that as deep or as little as you want, but obviously I made a conscious decision not to be in the video and to have all the guys doing the sexy things that girls are normally doing—which I think they enjoyed.” These ubiquitous Instagrammable moments range from posing in front of millennial pink walls, playing with puppies, dancing under a disco ball and chilling in a blown-up flamingo.
While we’re pretty sure you’ll have no troubles spotting the famous faces in the video, there are probably a few you missed. But fear not. Here’s a list to every single boy in Charli’s music video:
