Today, Apple Music is releasing an original short film with Celine Dion as she discusses the making of her new album, Courage.
In a global exclusive clip shared with FASHION, Dion says, “I’ve been going through tough times – the loss of René, realizing that I was going to be a single mom. Him and I, we were one person. So when he passed away, I kind of felt like for a moment that there was just one half of me. And then you have to go and put on a short dress and say to Caesar’s Palace, because I was still performing, [singing] ‘She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah’ and then you go to the studio. Oh, you have to sing. It was really hard because this is my first English album without René. In the process of recording that album, a lot of things changed.”

The film shows the Canadian superstar as she reflects on the creation of her newest album – her first English language album following the death of her late husband and manager René Angélil in January 2016. The seven-minute long short sees Dion talk about reaching the end of her 16-year residency in Las Vegas, discovering who she is without René and what it now means to be, not only a Grammy Award-winning artist with an international profile, but also a single mom to her three children: René-Charles, and twins Eddy and Nelson. It shows a woman finding herself in the midst of a tragedy, and rising once again in spectacular form – not having ignored the tough times, but embracing them to rebuild what she calls “her second half”.
“Am I just going to not go on anymore? Or am I going to say, I’m a warrior. I’m a mother. I have strength and I’m going to show them that I can do this,” she muses at one point.
The full short is available to watch exclusively on Apple Music from today. See it here.
