Last month, the Toronto Fashion Academy (TFA) hosted an advanced VIP screening of The Devil Wears Prada 2, the Global Box Office hit that took over pop culture after a record-breaking opening weekend. The attendees of this exclusive event got to see the film early, alongside brand activations, photo ops and even an industry panel. It only makes sense that FASHION was an official media sponsor, recognizing the important relationship between fashion and film.

If you haven’t seen The Devil Wears Prada 2 yet (if so, what are you doing?), this sequel succeeds the iconic 2006 film of the same name, following the protagonist Andy, played by Anne Hathaway and her experience working as an assistant for the Editor-In-Chief of the fictional Runway Magazine, Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep. The franchise is based on an eponymous book written by a former Vogue assistant and is known for prompting a critical conversation about the brutal work culture in the fashion industry. For anyone who works in fashion—or has ever even dreamt of working in fashion—The Devil Wears Prada is a nostalgic movie you can watch again and again. Who wouldn’t want to see its sequel at an exclusive screening?
This event was more than just watching a film—it brought the industry together. The day was powered by international fashion and culture leaders like the Fashion & Entertainment Council of Canada, the Italian Contemporary Film Festival and the Italian Chamber of Commerce, along with top creatives and executives working everywhere from luxury fashion houses like Louis Vuitton and Hermès to PR agencies like Toronto’s own Langton PR.

FASHION publisher Deidre Marinelli spoke on one of the event’s panels, diving into the relationship between fashion and film and how the media influences real-world style. There’s even been a spike in Google searches for workwear for women corresponding with the movie’s release week. Coincidence? We think not.
In line with Andy’s love of secondhand designer finds (cue her vintage Jean Paul Gaultier vest and trouser set), guests at the pre-screening were surprised with a special designer consignment giveaway from Angels Wear Preloved. One lucky attendee went home with a Valentino clutch—we’re sure Andy’s best friend and art curator, Lily, would be jealous! Plus, guests left with a copy of FASHION’s April 2026 issue for the road.
In case you missed this unforgettable premiere, here’s a look back at FASHION’s favourite moments and the best-dressed guests from the event.
