The best beauty moments in Rihanna and Drake’s “Work” videos
Rihanna‘s had a weird few weeks, or months (or years?) with the last-minute cancellation of her Grammys performance, the extremely delayed release of Anti (which ended up being worth the wait, though), and postponed tour dates, along with some unfortunate hair and makeup moments in 2015 (literally only three moments, but still). But this afternoon she released the video for “Work” featuring Drake, and honestly, all is forgiven. Firstly because the video is two videos, a trend we hope she continues for everything she releases from here on out, until we all die, amen.
Secondly, both videos are amazing, yet completely different. The first was filmed at The Real Jerk in Toronto and features exactly the right amount of AubRih grinding we want and deserve, and the second looks like “Hotline Bling” part two. Nothing to be mad at there. We’ll wait here until you watch them both a few times above so we can move on to the makeup. Take your time.
Okay, hi! Let’s start with the first video. Rihanna’s wearing dark green lipstick, lots of sparkly gold eyeshadow, heavy winged liner and false lashes. (A moment of silence for “no-makeup” makeup that is suddenly irrelevant. Just kidding. Maybe.)
There’s also an accent nail! Remember those?
Taking a page from the spring runways at Monique Lhulilier, Missoni, DVF and more, blue eyeshadow makes a beautiful appearance, and is particularly striking when paired with a bright pink lip—and somehow still seems totally wearable IRL.
Raise your hand if you never thought you’d be into an eyeshadow-matching glittery gold-tipped French mani. What a time to be alive.
And now for the second video, which features Pantone colours of the year aka “Hotline Bling” aka pastel porn. Let’s examine what we’ve got here.
Long hair! It’s been a while!
A perfect lavender smoky eye and matching lipstick.
Contouring and highlighting!
And this perfect moment.
