American Music Awards 2016: The Best Beauty Looks on the Red Carpet

Rain on a red carpet may be everyone’s worst nightmare, but judging by the beauty moments at the 2016 American Music Awards, it was no challenge for the celebrity makeup artists and the hairstylists. Guess they don’t call them pros for nothing.

However, we wouldn’t be surprised if there were some last minute changes in the hair department. The rain may or may not have something to do with the several ponytails we saw tonight. From Selena Gomez’s bouncy low ponytail (℅ Nikki Lee) to Ciara’s lush mane, it was a popular choice on the red carpet. But no one could possibly top the queen of ponytails, Ariana Grande. Diverging away from a simple pulled back look, Grande added tiny braids at the crown for a twist. And speaking of braids, Nina Dobrev (but really her hairstylist Riawna Capri) took braids to the next level by painting silver Major Moonshine hair gel for a futuristic look.

Berry lips may not be the most groundbreaking red carpet look during the fall season, but it was an obvious fave of the night nonetheless. Taraji P. Henson stepped out in a vibrant purple lip, while our very own cover girl Hailee Steinfeld‘s berry lip was the perfect pop to her mint-green Elie Saab ensemble.

Meanwhile, Keke Palmer gave us some serious ‘90s vibes. We’re absolutely obsessed with everything about the singer’s look, from her metallic smoky eye to her baby pink gloss to the celeb-fave tinted sunglasses. See also: Drake.
