This Wedding Dress Looks Good Enough to Eat

We’ve heard about some OTT wedding cakes (looking at you, Kaley Cuoco), but the latest one to pop up on our newsfeed takes the, err, cake.

As wedding cake designs go, people tend to stick to traditions (read: tiers and lots of fondant floral appliqués). But at this year’s Cake International competition (a.k.a. the world’s largest cake competition), all eyes were on award-winning cake designer Emma Jayne at London’s Alexandra Palace. Sticking to this year’s theme, Wedding Gowns Through the Ages, Jayne was inspired by one of Philippine fashion designer Mak Tumang‘s bespoke wedding dresses and recreated it in edible form.

To be honest, we’re having troubles differentiating which one is which.

Jayne clearly did an amazing job. Even the designer himself was blown away by the exactness when he swung by the event to offer his congratulations.

There aren’t any details on how she created it or how long it took. All we know is that it’s made out of sugar, and she used an innovative fault-free dragée applicator called dragéekíss.

If you’re a wedding cake enthusiast, you’d already know that the world-renowned cake artist is no stranger to pushing the envelope. If you scroll through her Instagram account (@emmajaynecakedesign), you’ll see an array of jaw-dropping designs. Seriously, she might as well be known as the Madame Tussauds of the cake world.

Her Neytiri of Avatar and Swan Lake cakes definitely deserve a standing ovation, but we’d have to say her latest creation for the international competition may be her best yet.
