“We’re really starting to see more of a focus on the social, cultural and wellness sides of sports,” says Lauren Kyle McDavid. We’re catching up with McDavid at Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix weekend in Montreal, where Sports Club Atelier (the premium sportswear brand she launched in 2025) has dropped The Fuel Fit: Hydrated by Design, an exclusive collection featuring a moto jacket and hat in collaboration with Liquid I.V.
Liquid I.V., everyone’s favourite electrolyte powder, just announced a multi-year partnership with McLaren Racing, so there’s lots to celebrate. And celebrate they did, starting at the Crescent Street Grand Prix Festival this past weekend, where the brand hosted a booth inspired by a cool classic garage body shop and featuring mocktails and photo opps galore. Speaking of, our favourite, most photo-worthy detail of the Sports Club Atelier x Liquid I.V. moto jacket? A custom pouch designed for a single-serving packet of Liquid I.V. next to the zipper, keeping hydration front and center (literally) in this collab.
“The hydration category has exploded over the last few years,” says Courtney Dodds, Brand Manager at Liquid I.V. Canada. “It also used to be really male-dominated. If you look at old advertisements from our competitors, the ads always featured these sweaty men,” she laughs. “But Liquid I.V. is for everyone.” Another outdated concept the brand is determined to flip on its head? The idea that electrolytes are only needed in moments of extreme physical endurance. “We want to bring hydration to the forefront of wellness. It’s for everyone, in everyday moments—and for recovery moments.” (Perhaps you’ve heard the statistics about Formula 1 drivers losing up to four litres of sweat in just one race?!)
McDavid—who is married to Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid—says she launched Sports Club Atelier after struggling to find stylish, modern, yet functional designs to wear herself. “I would be like, ‘What can I wear to the rink to go support my husband?’ I couldn’t find anything in the market, so I had to just rely on [team] colours.” McDavid noticed she wasn’t the only one. “These days, everyone’s interested in not just the sport, but the athlete, the person, the fashion, the style. And because Liquid I.V. is at the intersection of wellness and sports and culture, it was a natural fit for Sports Club Atelier.”
Not to mention the fact that McDavid is an avid Liquid I.V. consumer herself. Her desert island flavour? “The Sugar-Free Hydration Multiplier in White Peach.” (By the way, the entire sugar-free line is $10 off at Costco until June 7th—run, don’t walk). “It’s what I’m drinking right now,” she yells over the sound of the Formula 1 cars racing around the track. We’ll drink (a Liquid I.V. mocktail, that is) to that.
