We women know how terrible being on our periods can be. Between the bloating, the tender breasts and the PMS, it’s safe to say that time of the month isn’t exactly pleasant.

But perhaps the worst thing of all is menstrual cramps, which can sometimes be so bad, it just makes you want to crawl into a corner and cry until it goes away.

So you can imagine how riled up some women got when one dude proclaimed “As a guy, I think menstrual pain is a myth” on Twitter.

Personally, here’s how it made us feel:

It all started when Twitter user @goldenconceptng asked, “What is worse than a broken heart?"

One woman, @RAFIAT_BELLO, aptly responded, “Menstrual pain, homelessness, hunger etc.” to which @goldenconceptng replied with that (dumb af) tweet.

THEN, another dude, @Idriss_Ide got involved, so eloquently tweeting this:

Of course, women on Twitter were NOT having it and were quick to put @goldenconceptng and @Idriss_Ide back in their place.

Thankfully, not all men are ignorant to the perils of period pain.

And in case you needed more proof that YES, period pain is indeed real, here’s some medical data to back it up: According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, more than half of who menstruate experience this pain (which is medically referred to as dysmenorrhea) for at least one or two days.

The pain is due to natural chemicals called prostaglandins that build up in the lining of your uterus. These chemicals cause muscle contractions (a.k.a. cramps) in order to signal that it’s time for your uterus to shed its lining. So no, period pain IS NOT A MYTH.
