World Cup season is in full swing, and while most fans have their eyes on the scoreboard, we’re watching the sidelines. Fashion and sport have never crossed over this hard—on and off the pitch, players and fans alike are ditching the basic jersey for something with actual intention behind it.

This isn’t a new development. Luxury brands have spent the past year side-eyeing the sporting world, clocking exactly how much influence athletes and their personal style have on what’s trending. Now that fashion labels are fully paying attention, the World Cup has pushed this situationship into a full-blown relationship. Backed by a record-breaking number of team collabs and athletic drops, this tournament isn’t just fashion-adjacent—it’s fashion-forward, full stop. We’re obsessed.

From luxury tailoring to elevated casual, these are the goal-scoring collabs stealing the show this World Cup.

Canadian brand Mackage goes international

National pride sits at the heart of most World Cup partnerships, but few cross international borders the way Mackage and the Croatian Football Federation have. Based in Montreal, the boutique Canadian label has built an extensive lineup of men’s and women’s clothing with the Mediterranean powerhouse—elevating sport-inspired silhouettes with clean-cut design for an effortlessly polished, off-duty look.

The line’s unconventional pairing is arguably its most attractive feature, and one of the most successful to come out of Canadian craftsmanship this tournament. To learn more, we spoke with Tanya Golešić, CEO of Mackage, about her experience building the collaboration.

The project’s roots lie in the shared ethos between Mackage and the Croatian National Team, with every piece reflecting a “shared commitment to excellence, resilience, and national pride.” For Golešić, weaving together those mutual values made clear how “powerful authentic storytelling can be when two worlds come together with a shared purpose.”

Having watched the relationship between style and athletics grow firsthand, Golešić has seen the shift extend beyond trend cycles into how luxury brands perceive the sporting world. As labels seek real connections with their clientele, many are finding it in athletic culture: “when a product reflects a deeper story and emotional connection, it has the ability to transcend categories and bring communities together.”

She credits her Croatian upbringing as a key source of inspiration behind the partnership, which “represents something much larger than fashion, it’s a celebration of heritage, perseverance, and culture.” The collection honours that heritage while staying true to Mackage’s creative vision, mirroring the brand’s core values—“dedication, resilience, innovation, and performance.”

The line has been approached as a testament to Messi’s career as a once-in-a-lifetime talent; highlighted by vintage designs that capture his early days as a soccer star, Kith worked directly with him to maintain the integrity of every piece. With options for both on and off the pitch, the collection channels the best of Messi’s style, polished with creative direction from Kith and Adidas. Centered around his impact as a global icon, the project is rounded out by a campaign featuring Messi wearing the line in its entirety—exactly as he and co-designer Ronnie Fieg intended.
