Lady Gaga Collaborator Zombie Boy Dies at 32

Rick Genest, the Canadian model better known as Zombie Boy was found in his apartment Thursday evening, dead of an apparent suicide. Genest held two Guinness World Records -- one for the most insect tattoos (176) and another for the most human bone tattoos (139) -- and was perhaps best known for his star turn as the love interest in Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” music video. Genest also modelled for Jay-Z’s Rocawear label and appeared in a campaign for L’Oreal’s Dermablend makeup that depicted what the self-described “sideshow performer” would look like without all his tattoos. Lady Gaga eulogized his death with a tweet, calling the loss “beyond devastating” and emphasizing the importance of seeking help for mental illness. (CBC)

The collection features a series of shoes, handbags and lacquered jewellery emblazoned with Christian Dior’s favourite symbol of passion: the heart. The pop-up opens this Saturday August 4th and will remain on display until August 20th. (Press Release)

Allbirds Launches Shoes Made Out of Sugarcane

Allbirds, the favourite footwear brand of Silicon Valley techbros, has launched the world’s first sustainable flip-flop. The eco-conscious company wanted to phase out their reliance on petroleum-based EVA plastic they use to manufacture their soles, so they invested in the creation of a brand new material called ‘SweetFoam” derived from sugarcane grown in Southern Brazil. According to WWD, the raw materials are “processed in facilities that are run entirely on renewable power, amounting to the world’s first carbon negative EVA.” The shoes retail for $35USD/pair.
