I created my oil because I couldn’t really find anything on the market that I love. I always had a lot of different oils, like evening primrose and one day I decided to mix them up. I started bringing it to photo shoots and all the models and makeup artists loved it. One day my nephew came into my apartment and asked what I was doing and what I charge for it. I said “I don’t charge anything” and he said “that’s really stupid’. So he ordered some beakers and measured the formula with a Sharpie. Bob Recine, who makes my hair oil, I would give it to him and he gave it to everybody from Gwyneth Paltrow to Lady Gaga. Tom Pecheux has been a huge fan, he’s been wonderful. And I found this font that I really liked at the flea market on a luggage tag.
This is an antique bottle that I found in a store 10 years ago on the Upper East Side on Lexington Avenue. I never knew what I was going to put in it but I broke the top off of a bottle of my own perfume so I just poured the rest in here and now voila. I’ve got my own perfume in it, the new one.
This is a bottle of the new one, bis. It’s a total departure from my first one, which smells exactly like my products. This is just a one off I wanted to do for myself. It’s an ode to my mother. My parents went out every Saturday night and I was always really nervous they wouldn’t come home. So I would take my mother’s coat and wrap myself up in it and smell her. It smells like my mother’s powder puff, her 1950s lipstick, a little bit of toasted sugar, pepper and Juicy Fruit.
This is a travel size of my oil and it’s obviously gotten very bruised by my lipstick pencil. I usually don’t carry the big one but I did cause I’m staying overnight.
