Vancouver shop notes: Hotel shopping hot spot
The triumphant restoration of the 64-years-young, Tiki-inspired Waldorf Hotel (1489 E. Hastings St., 604-253-7141, waldorfhotel.com) makes it suitable for the Rat Pack, but luckily, it’s playing to the fashion pack too. At lobby level, the gift shop has gone “Surfin’ Safari” for summer with the likes of Cuchè swimsuits, Brixton straw hats, Red Flag Design sailcloth bags, and Alexandra Cassaniti sunglasses and neoprene leggings.
Take two steps forward and you’re in Barbarella at the Waldorf, the city’s second Barbarella outpost, which offers cuts, colours and coifs. Upstairs, a hotel room devoid of bed and dresser houses the latest collection of peekaboo underthings from New York–based lingerie label The Lake & Stars. The hotel is also host to the western chapter of Toronto’s group vintage sale, The Chosen Ones (the next dates are June 18 and 19). All that prettying up left you parched? Grab a refreshing cocktail on the new summer patio to see and be a scenester.
