She might be majoring in Justice and Peace at Georgetown University in Washington DC but Talita von Furstenberg has her eyes set on becoming a fashion designer. Following in her grandmother’s footsteps, the 19-year-old student aims to make social activism and philanthropy a part of her life and fashion career.

“I have looked up to my grandmother my whole life, and she has successfully leveraged her fashion empire to help and inspire many, many people,” she tells Teen Vogue.

At 19, Talita has already modelled for Diane von Furstenberg and Dolce & Gabbana, and appeared on the cover of magazines like Teen Vogue and Town & Country, but her latest move, a 23-piece capsule collection under the DVF brand, marks her first foray into the design world. “I designed TVF for DVF as a reflection of my personal style — feminine and soft,” she says. “The entire collection gives off happy, warm, and effortless vibes that make it easy to blend into your own wardrobe.”

In pastel hues like periwinkle, buttercup and lilac (the collection is inspired by nature and all the pieces are named after flowers), the breezy collection is comprised of floral skirts, peasant blouses and maxi dresses. Targeted at younger consumers, it’s all priced at under $300. Whereas the DVF brand has long been known for its bold prints and slinky wrap dresses, TVF takes a softer approach. “I look at it this way,” Talita tells Town & Country. “Your mom wore DVF, and maybe your grandmother wore DVF, but now I can bring something a little more fresh and youthful.”

19 may seem a tad young to add ‘fashion designer’ to one’s resume but by all accounts, this has been a long time coming. She began helping out with and observing her grandmother’s work at the age of six and has had a keen interest in fashion ever since. Ahead of the launch of the capsule line, DVF shared photos on Instagram of the young Talita at work, along with the caption “A collaboration 19 years in the making.”

Along with her university course load, Talita will be working on two TVF for DVF collections a year, for Spring/Summer and for Fall. And for those curious, those famous initials don’t exist just for branding, they’re also an intrinsic part of the von Furstenbergs’ personal lives. “We all call each other by our initials in our family,” Talita tells Town & Country. “I call her DVF. She calls me TVF. We call my stepmother [designer Ali Kay] AK. It’s a family thing.”
