Toronto: Joeffer Caoc, Bustle and David Dixon

Spotted: Editors looking chic despite the cold wicked wind of the west: lots of fur, chunky knits, coloured ribbed tights, croc-print boots, trenchcoats, skinny jeans tucked into boots, bejewelled flats and elbow-length leather gloves.
Now, on to the shows…
Joeffer Caoc’s spring 2009 collection drew a packed house, and once again the designer darling didn’t disappoint. The collection, titled Nude, incorporated his signature tucks, folds and draping techniques that lend a modern, minimalist feel to the silhouettes. Favourite pieces included ivory tie-leg pants, blouson dresses, suede mini skirt (so chic!), one-shoulder goddess gowns, sport utility-inspired vests and sequined tanks. The piece that broke the fashion rules: the horizontal striped sequin skirts. Only Caoc can make horizontal stripes look haute on a lady. Simple, artistic, and unexpected details stood out amongst the other over-embellished collections. We declare Caoc, king. Get backstage beauty tips.
Bustle provided a hit of menswear and a little male model eye candy as well. Former Tommy Hilfiger model and MTV host Sam Sarpong and Andrew Stetson of Calvin Klein Euphoria fame both walked the runway looking delightfully delicious. So, what’s in store for Bustle buyers this spring? Wide nautical stripes (blue is definitely the colour du jour), fitted blazers, a hint of shine (boyfriends beware!) and retro-inspired suitings. Mad Men, anyone? Actress Wendy Crewson showed her support of the Bustle brand with a standing O.
David Dixon’s Walk to Freedom collection closed the night with a flurry of lovely daywear separates and gorgeous evening gowns. Dixon is a master at mixing fabrics like porcupine-esque leather, linen denim and hand-beaded cracked leather. The result? An eclectic collection complete with tribal-inspired touches. Best of the bunch: floor-length fringe gowns, botanical-print silk sheath dresses, slouchy trousers (très sexy!), lily white sculptural skirts, orange print 3/4 length topper, gator scaled wide belts, day dresses with sheer trims, mesh overlay skirts, tropical orange asymmetrical gowns and skin printed pieces. The oversized ethnic-inspired statement necklaces provided a bold juxtaposition to some of the more delicate looks.
