Toronto Fashion Week: Day two

Today’s raindrops made shoe options tricky for the style set. Seen at the tents: Burberry rainboots, metallic silver Rubber Duck booties and one fabulous pair of YSL Tribute platforms. Hey, when you’re standing that high off the ground nothing can touch you, not even the rain.
Lucian Matis’ show was a hot ticket–apparently, the Project Runway Canada runner-up ‘should have won’. Or at least, that is what FASHION kept hearing all night long. Fave details: ruffle collars, beading, laser cuts and bows. Collection revolved around black and more black. Matis’ greatest attribute is his tailoring–very precise and very polished. Fall must-have: coat with epaulets. FASHION liked the Italian Vogue editor Anna Piaggi-inspired hats–but can’t imagine walking down Bloor Street rocking this headpiece. Final verdict: Send thee to the style cemetery.
The Heart Truth Fashion Show was literally “the best in show” thus far. Sponsored by the Heart and Stroke Foundation, it was fun, fearless and included a smattering of fabulous Canadian women like FT’s Jeanne Beker, ET Canada’s Cheryl Hickey, Olympic silver medalist, Charmaine Crooks and Actor Catherine O’Hara (who took quite a runway spill and still managed to make being a ham look haute). Each Canadian celeb-cum-model wore different versions of the red dress by designer darlings like Paul Hardy, Arthur Mendonça, David Dixon and Common Cloth. Bottomline: A standing O for a great cause.
Loved the Dynasty theme of the NADA show–who didn’t love Alexis Carrington’s conniving and over-the-top closet? Back to the ’80s inspired runway…lots of black and vivid blue, wide belts, exposed industrial zippers, sequins, and wide shoulders. FASHION prefers the sharp shouldered silhouette (à la YSL) but liked the throw-back to this decadent decade, with its big hair and even bigger bauble message. Ah, bless excess.
Joeffer Caoc had some delicious prints. But when doesn’t he? Loved the indigo blue mohair short coat (gorge, gorge!) paired with the glazed twill pant. Lots of cable-knit sweaters, printed draped dresses, wool skirts, pinstripe pants, and short toppers. FASHION is all about the topper for fall. Colour alert: Aubergine is on our radar. Other standout colours included indigo, lots of black (quel surprise!), and midnight blue (our personal fave). Best new body part to highlight for fall: The back. Look for drape-y backless dresses to leave a lasting impression. It’s all about the grand exit next Fall. Always leave them wanting more. Until my next jottings duckies…xo
