Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult taught us a lesson in taking one for the team at the TIFF premiere of Equals

Well, that was a cold and rainy Sunday. Thankfully, we had the premiere of Equals to lift our spirits (and offer us a temporary relief/shelter from the wind and rain) — especially thanks to red carpet appearances by stars Kristen Stewart, Nicholas Hoult, and director Drake Doremus who looked equal (get it?) parts dapper as they did pals.

Stewart, clad in navy Chanel and slicked-back hair (very modern, very something-I-could-never-pull-off), held her own alongside Hoult in his navy suit sans tie, while Doremus brought a very complementary orange button-up to the party. But like, literally. After the festival formalities, the masses flocked to Grey Goose Soho House, where apps were abundant and Fleetwood Mac played. (Did you see me dancing, Nicholas? Because I was very bad at it.)

The good news? Hoult showed up, rolled up his sleeves, and chatted near the kitchen for well over an hour, surrounded by friends and/or people who are very good at looking like his friends. The bad? Kristen Stewart had to catch a plane immediately following the screening, resulting in more than a few choruses of “Kristen’s not coming?!” as though this were our birthday, and she said she would be there, and how dare she miss it. I thought we were friends.

Alas, we are not, but in true (real) friendship fashion, Hoult flew the flag for both of them, staying at the soiree just as the lights were coming up. Granted, it was only 7 30 p.m. and what else were we supposed to do, but still: that’s how you shut a party down. Early, and with enough time to catch a solid eight hours.
