Formula 1 has just come to a close, but the buzz around racing is here to stay. To rev up the season watch brands launched exclusive styles perfect for enjoying the match, and we’ve reviewed the best of the best. From sleek designs modelled after exotic cars, to modern takes on classic looks that never go out of style—consider this the ultimate guide to taking the lead with your watch game.

Race to The Stars

Alpina has reinterpreted a cornerstone of its collection: the iconic Startimer pilot’s watch. The standout variation comes in stainless steel with a black 40-millimetre PVD-coated case, a black dial, a brown NATO strap and—to really get your motor running—a new La Joux-Perret movement.

Revved-Up Revival

Cartier Roadster

Cartier first launched its Roadster collection, which took its design cues from the clean, curved lines of the classic ’50s-era Porsche 356, in 2001. Although the offering was discontinued a decade later, the brand now surprises watch lovers with a delightful reissue from the archive each year. This one is a winner.

Running Start

Bulova Shelby

This limited-edition watch summons the spirit of legendary car customizer Carroll Shelby’s 1967 Shelby Ford Mustang GT500. That’s thanks to the use of a blue-and-white palette, an angular bullhead case (the pushers are positioned like horns) and the Shelby Cobra logo set in the centre of the three o’clock register.

With its black ceramic bracelet and 42-millimetre case, the J12 Superleggera (its name references the famous ultralight construction of supercars) features a streamlined design that hugs the curves of your wrist like a ribbon of road on the Amalfi Coast.

Checkered Flag

As the official timekeeper of F1, TAG Heuer needs to be at the front of the field when it comes to innovation. The chronograph mechanism of the Monaco Evergraph is revolutionary because it removes virtually all of the levers and springs traditionally associated with the start, stop and reset functions. All the better to keep up with the world’s fastest sport.

Easy Rider

Tissot has partnered with MotoGP to celebrate the high-octane world of motorcycle racing. This special edition leans into that energy with a red-hot dial that echoes the flash of brake lights and a forged-carbon insert that sits on a black PVD-coated bezel, evoking a high-performance tire.

Acid Trip

This kaleidoscopic chronograph was inspired by a legendary 1990s racing Swatch, the Grand Prix SCJ101. This oversized version has been upgraded with environmentally conscious touches, such as a bright-yellow biosourced case and a matching loop and buckle that totally pop against a dark-blue strap.

Peak Performance

The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona was designed for motor-racing professionals but has since become a cultural touch-stone, popularized by Hollywood legends like Paul Newman and music moguls like Jay-Z. This 40-millimetre two-tone version in stainless steel and gold elevates it to the pinnacle of racing watches.

Fired Up

The dial of this Black Bay Chrono may look traditional, but it is surrounded by a black stainless-steel bezel that gleams like an asphalt track. Flip it over to admire its cool metallic openwork brushed-tungsten monobloc rotor.

Fast Car

Chopard Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Tribute to Sir Stirling Moss

In 1955, Sir Stirling Moss’ legendary co-driver Denis Jenkinson took the checkered flag at the Mille Miglia (“Thousand Miles”) endurance race. His record—10 hours, 7 minutes and 48 seconds—still stands to this day. This design of the classic chronograph has a similar staying power.
