FASHION & The Room Team Up to Showcase Fall 2018’s Best Looks

On a sunny summer day, the FASHION team set off for a shoot with an unlikely litter of models—a half-dozen rescue dogs, courtesy of Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary in King City, Ont. Tufts of fur, wagging tails and panting tongues aren’t typical accessories for a fashion spread, but they served as the perfect plus-ones for the star of our shoot, Harlow Rose Monroe, who modelled the season’s standout looks—aka the Best in Show—for our September issue.

In a team-up with luxury retailer The Room, our fashion editor Eliza Grossman and The Room’s fashion director Tyler Franch selected some of Fall 2018’s coolest trends—including animal print, western, and slick leather—to showcase alongside some of the most handsome animals around. The designers selected for this shoot from The Room’s range of international labels include Ellery, Attico, Alaia, Junya Watanabe, Simone Rocha and Cap.

“Dogs were paired with looks by the fashion team; it was one of the hardest castings we’ve ever done,” quipped Grossman. “Our canine collaborators would wander the set as we were shooting, and were photographed as they naturally moved in and out of the shots.”

What better way to show off a sculptural black Thom Browne dress than with an equally eye-catching, glossy-haired canine? And could there be a more stylish partner for a leopard-print jacket-and-skirt set by Alaia than a pooch with an enviable chocolate coat? Best in Show indeed.

Hudson’s Bay’s The Room is located in Toronto and Vancouver.
