Model Mara Martin Walked the Runway While Breastfeeding Her Infant Daughter
Swimsuit model Mara Martin turned heads when she strutted down the Sports Illustrated runway, but it wasn’t because of what she was wearing.
The Michigan native walked the Sports Illustrated runway in a shimmery gold one-shouldered bikini while breastfeeding her 5-month-old baby without missing a beat and women everywhere are praising her for it. Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, tweeted “Love this”, while an Instagram commenter chimed in saying, “I’m really glad this mother is confident and responsible enough to feed her child regardless if you think it’s ‘icky’.”
In a lengthy and heartfelt Instagram post, Martin wrote “I can’t believe I am waking up to headlines with me and my daughter in them for doing something I do every day. It is truly so humbling and unreal to say the least. I’m so grateful to be able to share this message and hopefully normalize breastfeeding and also show others that women CAN DO IT ALL!”
She also referred to the other strong women that walked the runway alongside her, shouting out specifically a paralympic snowboarder, cancer survivor, and a woman joining the military, as well as Sports Illustrated for giving her the incredible opportunity to be her true self.
“Because of you, my daughter is going to grow up in a better world, where she will always feel this way. Lastly, to every single women that rocked that runway with me. Be proud. I know I am of you! You have all inspired me in ways unimaginable.”
