Fashion Week, IRL: 10 Style Panel members test out their favourite street style looks

As the Fall 2015 shows continue their reign on our Instagram feeds and general brain space, a daily onslaught of photos ensures that we never suffer from lack of inspiration. And while what’s being shown on the runways might qualify as inspiration for the distant future, what’s going on outside the shows can seriously impact what we’re wearing, like, ASAP. Case in point: the faux fur, which has been making an impact outside the shows and is just perfect for sub-zero temperatures of the Great White North. Today, 10 Style Panel members are showing off their favourite street style trends, co-opted for right now.

Question 131: What’s the best new street trend you’ve seen emerge and how are you wearing it? Read the answers now! »

Mo Handahu, 29
Halifax | Lion Hunter

Statement accessories will always have a place in my fashion week arsenal and I always look forward to street style photos to see what other style mavens have gathered. As fashion month begins I love sifting through jewelry bins and displays of my favorite thrift and vintage store in hopes of finding something rare. This turtle belt turned necklace is definitely a rare find. I’ve paired it with other gold accessories to spruce up a minimal look!

Mo’s wearing: Poncho, Necklaces and Earrings, Value Village. Glasses, The Black Market. Belt, Target.

My favourite street style looks these days incorporate eye-catching prints, textures and soft, neutral shades that announce spring. This look is my version of all three. The colour scheme is soft and spring-ready, while the bird-emblazoned coat is sure to get a double take. The skirt adds a lot of texture and visual interest to the look, and I love wearing a statement skirt during unexpected times-of-day to really up the ante (breakfast in a poufy skirt, anyone?).

Vickie’s wearing: Coat, H&M. Top, Zara. Skirt, Trisha Pasnak. Heels, Forever 21. Clutch, 3.1 Phillip Lim. Necklace, Barefoot Contessa.

Kerrie Sanderson, 25
Edmonton | Kerried Away

Arguably the best part of fashion week is the influx of street style that saturates Tumblr and Instagram. My favourite trend this year is the resurgence of the fur coat (although in my opinion fur has never gone out of style). Nothing beats the real deal, and when you live in Edmonton having the warmest option is essential. Since fur is so expensive, I opt for vintage pieces that have stood the test of time. Of course if real fur isn’t your thing there are lots of beautiful faux options, but for me, mink is divine.

Kerrie’s wearing: Persian lamb and mink coat, vintage. Shirt, thrifted. Pants, J Brand. Boots, gravitypope.

Sandy Joe Karpetz, 25
Edmonton | The Pretty Secrets

Though my favourite neutral is arguably black, I like to mix in shades of cognac and beige for good measure. It doesn’t hurt to add a bit of texture when the outfit itself is simple; patterned tights, suede shorts, and a camel clutch add interest to my otherwise basic outfit.

Sandy’s wearing: Sunglasses, The Row. Turtleneck, jacket, short, necklace and clutch, vintage. Tights, Wolford. Heels, Alexander Wang.

Cee Fardoe, 27

As a fashion blogger I shouldn’t admit this, but I don’t pay much attention to trends. For me, having a strong personal style means wearing what I love, regardless of whether it’s on trend for a particular season. But I have to admit, I loved seeing so many neutrals on the runways this year. Black, white and grey have always been my colours, and keeping them interesting is easier than you think. My top tip? Instead of pairing black and white, or black and grey, mix up all three. Adding a third neutral to your outfit will instantly make it more eye-catching.

Cee’s wearing: Sweater and hat, H&M. Tank, Sezane. Jeans, Gina Tricot. Heels, Christian Loutboutin. Bag, Furla. Ring, Thomas Sabo. Necklace, Fashionology.

Becky Kung, 30
Calgary | Velvet & Vino

I had to miss attending this season’s New York Fashion Week, yet I was even more inspired while following the street style trends from afar! One of my favorite street style trends is the crop pant, which I noticed as peg trousers, cigarette legs and in printed variations.

Despite the chilly temperatures, showing a little bit of ankle is my favourite way to transition into spring and certainly a street style trend I’m embracing.

Becky’s wearing: Crop pants, Topshop. Blazer, Le Chateau. Blouse, Forever 21. Heels, Le Chateau. Sunglasses, Polette.

Kayla Short, 26
Halifax | Short Presents

When it comes to street style fashion right now (in the thick of winter) it’s all about having a great coat! I’m obsessed with my camel colored jacket with it’s faux fur hood, and beautiful clasp toggles. For the first thing people see on the sidewalk, and when you walk in the door I say that you should always invest in a great coat, and this one from Dynamite is no exception.

Kayla’s wearing, Coat, Dynamite. Shirt, H&M.Necklace, Forever 21. Jeans, c/o Marshalls. Shoes, Nine West. Watch, Daniel Wellington. Bag, Sneha Varma.

Kira Paran, 29
Edmonton | Northern Style Exposure

My favourite street style trend is athleisure. I’ve seen tons of bomber jackets, sneakers, baseball caps this season and I love to co-opt the look by working in a cute pair of sneakers, like these leopard calf hair slip ons with a messy ponytail.

Kira’s wearing: Coat, J.Crew. Pant, J.Crew. Sneaker, J.Crew Factory. Top, J.Crew. Bag, Alexander Wang.

Crissy Fundaro, 35
Montreal | Some Velvet Morning

From the streets to the runways, I’ve seen the faux fur trend everywhere. Different patterns and styles, faux fur is fun to style this winter season. I kept my look casual by pairing it with some skinny jean and versatile booties.

Crissy’s wearing: Coat, Forever 21. Jeans, DL1961. Top, Zara. Booties and hat, Aldo.

Eleni McMullin, 27
Calgary | Convey The Moment

One thing I love is how versatile a neutral palette is and basically can work into wherever you want them to be. I’m sweet on the boho-chic lately so a pair of distressed jeans with a headpiece and a bold lip for an added touch were absolutely no brainers. I basically hit three trending styles all in one go but modified to fit me and my own personal style.
