Stand Up: We Asked 15 Canadian Musicians To Sing Happy Birthday To Canada

Earlier this year FASHION hosted the Junos 2017 Portrait Studio with celebrity photographer George Pimentel. Various musicians including Shawn Mendes and July Talk checked in with us to have their portrait done while decked out in some fun rock star accessories. This all went down in April in Ottawa.

But with #Canada150 looming FASHION got creative. We asked our guests to put their musical talents on display by singing Oh Canada for the camera. The results are raw, fun and at times heartwarming.

There are lots of simple “Happy Birthday Canada,” but there’s a lovely rendition from Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland of Whitehorse, a hearty wail from Josh Ramsay of Mariana’s Trench, and the ever-dapper music producer/activist Sol Guy truly nailed a nation’s sentiment with this:  “I’ve been around the world, and I love it here best.”

Amen to that! HBD Canada!
