It’s the first day of September, and we all know what that means: no more procrastinating on the lengthy to-do lists amassed throughout the summer (ok, maybe starting after Labour Day). At least for fashion lovers the feeling of back-to-school dread is tempered by the fact that September also signals the kick off to the extravaganza that is Fashion Month.
So what if you haven’t snagged any show invites—frankly, outside of snapping a blurry Instagram shot, who needs ‘em? With the rate that information is disseminated these days, audiences not in attendance at the shows can find out what they missed approximately 30 seconds after it happens. It’s a caste system that is unprecedented in the world of fashion—an industry that 15 years ago was notoriously exclusive and completely inaccessible to outliers. Now, with 450+ shows on the schedule that are available to anyone with WiFi password or hefty data plan, it’s no longer a question of how you’re going to find out what’s going on, but what exactly is going on.
So—what is going on? For the last few weeks we’ve been scouring the headlines, compiling a list of all the major events that have toes curling with anticipation in our Stan Smiths. Of course, fashionmagazine.com will be reporting all the action as it happens, with our editors sending in field notes from the front lines. Keep checking back as we update our list of must-sees with corresponding coverage, and buckle up—so far it looks like Spring 2016 is going to be a wild ride!
When designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne of cool kid label Public School took the reigns at DKNY back in April, we knew their inaugural showing was definitely going to be buzzy. With their penchant for unisex designs, it will be interesting to see how they translate the iconic brand’s DNA for the next gen.

Vogue Runway has landed
Well, it’s finally here—after months of pre-promotion, Style.com, that most beloved online industry bible, has folded into VogueRunway.com. For those who grew up perusing pages of Style.com and hungrily devouring the reviews of their editors-turned-icons (hello, Tim Blanks), this transition has induced some nostalgic vibes. But then, fashion is about nothing if not change, and after taking stock of the shiny new domain, it seems as though the fashion devout are in good hands. One of their first posts catalogs the 25 best shows from the ’90s, featuring the likes of Marc Jacobs’s infamous ’93 collection for Perry Ellis—yes, please!

Givenchy decamps from Paris…
In a move practically unheard of for a house as storied as Hubert de Givenchy’s, we almost couldn’t believe it when Riccardo Tisci announced that he would be packing up shop for NYC this season—not to mention that he’s also opened up the show to 1,200 members of the general public. And then there are the rumors that Caitlyn Jenner is in talks to make her runway debut at the show (given Tisci’s close ties to the Kardashian/Jenner clan and his active stance on LGBTQ rights, this makes total sense). Can you say social media takeover?
Spring 2016 is certainly proving to be a game of musical chairs in terms of showing cities, as The Row has also announced they will be moving their runway presentation from NYFW to Paris this season with less than two weeks to go. Could there be some hidden reason behind this last minute change? We’ll be watching…

Spring 2016 is going to be a big one for Alexander Wang—not only will he be presenting his final collection for Balenciaga, but it is also the 10th anniversary of his eponymous line. We’re guessing that both after parties are going to be completely out-of-control.

Speaking of parties…
Never one to not have his share of the limelight, Marc Jacobs announced that he would be hosting the launch party for Gloss, a book about ‘70s photo legend Chris Von Wangenheim, at NYFW this season. The party dress code explicitly states (in all caps): “FUR COATS OVER LINGERIE, LIP GLOSS, JERRY HALL SIDE-SWEPT HAIR, SEQUINS, GOLD LAMÉ TURBANS, PATTI HEARST SYMBIONESE LIBERATION ARMY GEAR, ROGUE, ROLLERINA CHIC, SHEER HAREM PANTS, MINI SKIRTS AND MUSCULAR LEGS, PLATINUM RECORDS AS HEAD GEAR, SEQUINS, GRACE JONES BUTCH REALNESS, GLOSS-Y SKIN, BLEACHED EYEBROWS, SLITS, RIDING IN ON A WHITE HORSE, SEQUINS, SKY HIGH STILETTOS, MIRRORED AVIATORS, METAL MESH, COWL NECKLINE HALTERS, OR EYES OF LAURA MARS CHIC. Coach moves to the runway
In an attempt to re-position themselves as the “American Louis Vuitton,” Coach has announced that they will be holding a runway show for their Spring 2016 womenswear collection, despite a continued loss of profits. Can this catwalk debut can convince the fashion crowd that Coach is no longer an outlet brand?

The celebrity designer presence at NYFW this season is a bit WTF, with such disparate parties as Lauren Conrad and Carrie Underwood showing their respective vintage-inspired and athlesiure collections alongside Instagram sensation Josh Ostrovsky’s (aka The Fat Jewish) “Dad Fashion Show” —as in, dad bods? Stay tuned.

Anthony Vaccarello will premiere his first official collection for Versus Versace at LFW, alongside John Galliano’s MM6 (Maison Margiela’s diffusion line). Perhaps the designers are hoping to tap into the city’s rock-and-roll history?
