Sophie Touchet’s fashion week: A behind-the-scenes look at the rising model’s trip back home

Sophie Touchet Fashion Week
Photography by Wally Sparks

At our inaugural Toronto Fashion Week Awards last season, we crowned Sophie Touchet best model. The 20-year-old Titian redhead caught our eye with her elfin looks, sweet demeanor and rise-to-fame story (she’d been plucked from a part time gig at Best Buy in Gatineau, Quebec just a few years before). Since, she’s hit the runways everywhere from Dries Van Noten to Oscar de la Renta and starred in Kenzo’s latest campaign.

This season, she returned back to Canada to walk the runways at Mackage, Soia and Kyo and Mikael D, so we sent Frische Magazine editor and photographer Wally Sparks along for the ride. From rehearsal to a lunch run, Sparks captures Touchet’s playful spirit on the move.

Flip through our gallery for a peek at fashion week from the eyes of Canada’s rising star. Meanwhile, read our LOL-filled Q&A:

What do you do to kill time backstage?
I’m always in touch with my boyfriend and my agents. When I have a moment backstage, I love doing Sudoku on my cellphone. So nerdy… I know! I’m actually getting pretty good. I used to bring my Rubik’s cube backstage to stay entertained, but it was getting way too much attention. Sudoku is perfect.

What was your favourite moment of the week?
My favorite moment was when I opened Soia & Kyo. I just love the energy you get when your the first one to step on the runway and the lights goes on!

What did you do to wind down after the shows?
My boyfriend was in town with me for the week. After every night we drove back to The Darling Mansion, a vintage bed and breakfast that I recommend to everyone. The owner is a sweetheart!

What are your favourite emojis?
There’s so many I like! My ultimate favorite is the turbo space jet.

What’s something we don’t already know about you?
I love to drive virtual trucks and make deliveries on my game computer through a game called Eurotruck Simulator! My boyfriend even set it up in our living room so I can play on our TV. I also like to build cities on simulation games. It’s so much fun and so relaxing!
