The white dress, the first dance, the cake cutting and the bouquet toss are all wedding rites of passage. They’re traditions that are so simple, but so important to making your big day feel extra special. When it comes to finding your “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue,” there’s a lot more wiggle room to change it up and find bits and pieces that fit your personality and your wedding style. Especially when it comes to the something blue.
The old English rhyme traditionally pointed to a blue garter, but Jessica Mulroney of Kleinfeld Bridal at Hudson’s Bay says she “knew a bride that dip-dyed the end of her white dress in blue. Nail colour is also a great way [to incorporate the idea]. The possibilities are endless!”
The skinny strap of a sky blue stiletto peeking from underneath your dress, or a crushed velvet ring box are subtle ways of sneaking the motif in, while earrings rendered in robin’s egg blue or cobalt bridesmaids dresses are more vibrant nods to the saying. You can even keep the theme going long after your wedding day with icy ‘Thank You’ cards, a sapphire studded eternity band or tinted champagne coupes to toast to your happy new life together.
