Sid Neigum Fall 2013: The king of colourless cool experiments with florals and mossy greens at fashion week

The king of colourless cool, Sid Neigum, had a couple of surprises up his sleeves last night for his Fall 2013 show at World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto. Known for collections that leave hues and prints out of the equation, Neigum tossed inverse florals and mossy emerald green prints into the mix to re-imagine his motto for fall.
As a cellist played live, models walked slowly, while sporting sky-high warrior-meets-Whoville hairdos and oversized knit dresses, geometric boxy pantsuits and printed trousers. The collection kept viewers guessing as the colour scheme and prints slowly shifted from white to black to emerald green.
Joining in on the trend of winter florals, which has previously been spotted on the runways of Erdem and Pink Tartan this season, Neigum created a unique print using X-rayed versions of flowers. These tailored pieces were a pleasant surprise from the oversized slouchy dresses we’ve grown accustomed to and that were still very prominent in the collection. Topping the list of unexpected details featured in the show, was the designer’s controlled use of leather around cuffs and seams giving the pieces a polished finish.
While the addition of colour was a twist, the green pieces did not have the same appeal as the winter florals and geometric prints in Sid Neigum’s collection. We do, however, hope to see more prints as the designer’s career progresses.
