Shu-in for great makeup

A while ago, I had the opportunity to meet Jason Hoffman, a principal makeup artist for Shu Uemura, who showed me the 25th Boutique Birthday collection, which commemorates the silver anniversary of the first Shu Uemura store in Tokyo.

The Limited Edition Fleur de Rose palette ($74) has brown shades perfect for building a natural eyeshadow look, but Hoffman was most excited about the Fleur de Source version, which includes a few shocking blues and greens—in fact, he said he’s crazy about greens in general, right now!

Used as a highlighter just under the brow bone, Hoffman showed me how the chartreuse shade can help open the eye—perfect for the morning after a bender. The Fleur de Terre palette contains another bright green alongside a bright pink (which you can mix with a little gloss for a youthful lipstick look), coral, dark brown for highlighting, and white, which Hoffman suggests using for added shimmer all over.

The 25th Boutique Birthday collection also includes a shimmer liquid liner and three eaux de toilette. The range is available exclusively at Holt Renfrew Vancouver (737 Dunsmuir St., 604-681-3121, holtrenfrew.com)—but hurry! It’s almost sold out.
