It’s always a sign of summer for me when the racetrack opens up. As a little girl my grandparents would take me and all my cousins to the races and we would each get to place a two dollar bet on our lucky horse. Naturally all of us girls would choose our winner based on the color sash the horse and jockey were wearing.
I was reminded of this memorable occasion while browsing through hats at Hats & That (636 Broadway Avenue, 306-933-1898).
Some of my favorites were the large brimmed hats by Lizzy by Design (from $40) and Canadian-made Lillie & Cohoe (from $80). The selection at the shop brings to mind the Kentucky Derby, famous for attracting celebs, socialites and royals—all donning large and elaborate headgear.
Needless to say, it’s that time of the year again. I’ll be heading down to Marquis Downs (Prairieland Park, 306-931-7149) to catch some thoroughbred racing. I will be the girl in the fabulous hat!
I love thunderstorms, rodeos and lying on the beach. I like learning new things, red and green Dino Sours and Broadway shows. I’ve been told I have a slight shopping problem. I disagree. I like Rider roadtrips, snowboarding, acting and a good night of dancing. I’m competitive at Monopoly. Greece has the best sunsets, Austria the best wine. I love New York City! It’s important to be nice. I think auctions are thrilling and backpacking Thailand should be mandatory. I can bake thirty-minute brownies in twenty minutes.
