It’s picnic season, so now is the perfect time to serve up pretty gingham prints. From runway to real way, this preppy staple adds a fresh spin to any summer look.
Reese Witherspoon is the poster girl of gingham, and regularly shares photos of herself sporting checks on Instagram.
Recently, the 41-year-old actress/founder of lifestyle brand Draper James hosted a star-studded party (Molly Sims! Chelsea Handler! Jennifer Garner!) for the launch of her label’s exclusive capsule collection with Net-a-Porter. Featuring floral, gingham and lace dresses in retro ‘50s silhouettes, the limited edition collab collection is now available on Net-a-Porter.
From Molly Sims’s off-the-shoulder maxi dress to Ava Phillippe’s (Witherspoon’s 17-year-old daughter with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe) pastel-hued dress, gingham was a go-to party look for many of the guests.
Previously, Witherspoon has showed off her own checks pairing a blue gingham tie-waist dress (a.k.a. the ultimate summer day look) with mirrored sunglasses, an armful of bangles and a colourful clutch.
When it comes to incorporating a gingham print with summer separates, the actress pairs an easy, breezy off-the-shoulder checked top with a pair of colour coordinating shorts. Whether you’re headed to the beach or a backyard BBQ, this pretty-yet-casual look is sure to become an instant favourite in your wardrobe this summer. Just add a wicker bag and a pair of platforms, and you’re good to go.
While blue gingham is a classic (and goes with everything from denim to dresses), red picnic-ready prints are on our radar because they’re sassy and sophisticated. Think Southern charm with a cheeky twist—we’ve found our summer look, y’all.
